The Winter Season occurs between April and September and covers the Australian winter. Conditions are generally superb for road walking with mild winter temperatures, fast courses and lots of competition for all age groups.

VRWC ROAD WALKS, MIDDLE PARK, SUNDAY 14 JANUARY 2024

Our final VRWC roadwalk meet for the summer saw 15 walkers in attendance at Middle Park on a perfect Sunday morning. W50 masters supremo Kelly Ruddick was in a class of her own, winning the 10km with a fine time of 50:03. Arnika Nelson, recently named in the New Zealand World Teams Championship team, also walked excellently and finished just a couple of seconds outside her PB with 51:48. 20 year old Alejandro Stephens was our longest distance walker, finishing the 15km in a good 1:19:33. And a special mention to 10 year old Indigo Marshall-Moodie who stormed through to a big 1km PB on her way to a big 2km PB time of 12:00.

That's our last club meet for the summer. We will return in late April for our winter roadwalking season

VRWC ROAD WALKS, MIDDLE PARK, SUNDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2023

Good conditions greeted the 24 walkers in attendance on the morning of Sunday 12th November for our VRWC Summer Racewalking Championships at Middle Park. The day kicked off with the 20km Gus Theobold Championship for the Open Men and it was three of our best who led them out - internationals Kyle Swan and Rhydian Cowley and our top junior Marcus Wakim, who was attempting his first 20km. They chatted together as they ticked off the laps in what was for them an enjoyable training session. Alejandro Stephens and New Zealand visitor Alex Brown tagged along behind, making the most of their opportunity, while junior Jonathan Ho, whose furthest distance thus far had been 12km, was out to explore new territory. Kyle, Marcus and Rhydian crossed the finish line together and it was up to our officials to decide who was given line honours. Behind them, Alejandro and Alex and Jonathan all walked well to also record good finishing times.

VRWC ROAD WALKS, MIDDLE PARK, SUNDAY 22 OCTOBER 2023

It was a cold and windy Sunday morning at Middle Park for the first races in our 2023/2024 VRWC Summer Season and the racing numbers were understandably down - with only 13 competitors, I think officials may have outnumbered walkers! Our top performances came in the longer events, with 19 year old Jonathan Ho successfully tackling his first 15km (1:25:41) and Alejandro Stephens recording a strong 10km PB (51:03)
